Fandango
Luigi Boccherini (1743-1805) was an Italian composer who lived in Spain and wrote music for the courts of Spain, France and Germany. He composed over 400 chamber music pieces!
You will hear one of his most famous pieces, the Fandango, for Guitar and string quartet. A fandango is a Spanish dance that begins slowly with the RHYTHM marked by the clack of the dancers’ CASTANETS.
The Guitar is the most popular instrument in Spanish and Latin American music. It originated in Spain over 500 years ago and has 6 strings with a hollow wooden body. The guitarist plucks or strums the strings with the right hand fingers.
